Frequently Asked Questions

What is a hackathon?

A hackathon is where you turn your crazy ideas into real projects. We provide hardware, mentors, fun activities, speakers, workshops, food, friends, and so much more. You take care of hacking; we’ll take care of you.

How do I get there?

The event is held at the Appleton Tower Concourse, The University of Edinburgh, George Square. Its 5 minutes away from the Waverly Station and 20 minutes away from the Airport.

What if I don't have a team?

We will host a team formation event at the beginning of the hackathon so there's no need to hack alone (unless you want to go solo!)

What can I build?

Anything your heart desires! At CreatED you'll have access to all the hardware technologies you need, ranging from VR to gaming, we have partnered with several start-ups and companies to make sure we got 'em all!

What if I have never coded?

You don't need to know how to code! We have range of workshops during the hackathon that will introduce you to programming languages and developing for hardware!

Will you provide hardware?

Yes! There’ll be tons of cool hardware for you to hack on! We’ll try to put out a list closer to the event so you can see what’s available. Feel free also to bring your own from home or email us with any suggestions!

I don't live in the UK. Can I still attend?

Yes! If you're selected and need help with the visa, we'll be providing a letter of invitation to help you with the logisitics.

How is CreatED Hack different?

CreatED Hack is hardware-hackathon, so all the projects you build should be related to hardware. It can range from IoT, VR, AR or even a retro arcade game!

What about travel reimbursement?

We're working on getting travel reimbursement. We'll keep you updated.
